We left Lake Atitlan with sad hearts. Heading for the National Park,Semuc Shampey. We stopped in a little town called Lanquin, after a 13 hour bus ride. It was not very fun. We were staying there for 2 days. We got there pretty late and we were all exhausted so to bed we went. The next morning we took a tubing tour down the river and through very small rapids. It was fun. Not the most exiting thing we've ever done, but totally worth it.
That night at sun set, we went down to the bat caves. We wen't planning on getting a guide, but a man offered it to us for what ever we wanted to pay. Over all it was totally worth having him. We found a really cool spider walking in our path. Because it was so dark, we don't have a good picture. At around 5:00, we went back to the entrance and watched as all the bats were flying out for the night. It was really cool. The next day, we left for Semuc Shampey. We had to go on the back of a pic up truck on a 40 minute drive on a bumpy dirt road. It was all rite. We got to our beautiful hostel, Greengo's hotel. We got there just in time for the 10:00 tour of the water cave and the tubing. The water caves are a cave system with a under ground river running through it. It is pith black so you go with a candle. There were some deep parts so you had to hold on to a rope with one hand and your candle with the other. There were some parts with waterfalls and you had to climb up a slippery rope latter.
After the caves, we went tubing down the freezing cold river. We started at the bottom of the water fall with was really pretty.
We each got our tube and went into the river. After that we went back and got our lunch. After lunch, we went to what semuc shampey is known for. The water pools! There are little pools at the top of the water fall were people go to swim. We did a hike up to the view point. O MY GOSH!!! It was so tiring. My dad said if he had to guess, it was 1000 steps up. It was really Beautiful though.
When we got down we went swimming in all the pools. Each one was so pretty
We started to head back to Greengo's for the night. We will come back tomorrow.
The next day we went back to Semuc. We met a girl named Maya who came with us. (She spoke English) We spent the morning there and that afternoon we just hung out. That night we played Volly ball with some people we met. It was really fun. Next up we are headed to Floris and Tikal. Bye, bye Semuc Champey.
