Our Story

Croatia-Livy

With sad hearts, we left Greece. Our next stop would be Croatia, but first a quick stop in Geneva, Switzerland. The cheapest way to get to Croatia was to take a flight to Geneva for 6 hours. Then we flew to Dubrovnik. Geneva was really cool. We walked down to the water and saw the highest fountain ever. My dad said it was at least 100 feat high! We also saw a church, it was really cool.

WE got back on the plane and flew to Croatia. The views from the plane were amazing! You could see the mountains and there was actually snow on them. It's been a while since we last saw snow!!!
Some of the white is clouds, some of it is snow.

That is just clouds
We finally landed in Dubrovnik. Croatia is known for there old cities, and Dubrovnik has one of the best. The next day was spent touring this 1000 year old walled city. I don't really care for old stuff, but this was crazy. The condition it was in was awesome!

The next day we walked around the wall circling the city. It was about a 2 hour walk. The views up there were amazing! When you first got up, it was awesome. But the higher you climbed and the more you walked, it just got more spectacular

You could take kayaking tours, we wanted too, but there was not enough time.

Before we went down
. We then left the city and went to the Gondola you could take up the mountain. We were taking it up the walking down.
It really does look like a fairy tale castle doesn't it?

We then went to the island. We saw so many bunny's and peacocks there. We found some cliffs and went cliff diving. It was soooooo fun. We just kept going and going. Over and Over.

Next Stop MAKARSKA

We drove 2 hours to our next stop, Makarska, and I immediately loved it. The town had such good vibes, it was like it was glowing. We went to a bakery and got pizza slices for lunch, then went to the beach. It was pebbles but still beautiful.

We walked through a park and there were rocks lining the shore the whole way. This is what we saw

We walked up a small hill. This ship was just coming in

The mountains in the back are my favorite park.

Near the end of the park.

Sadly we only had two days in Makarska. It was by far my favorite place in Croatia so far.
Next stop SPLIT

We left Dubrovnik and headed to the next town Split. It also had an old city. My parents thought it was so cool, but me and Anneka could not tell the difference between it, and Dubrovnik.

This is underground

This was at the entrance (Anneka thought it was a wizard)

The next day we rented bikes and biked around the central park. I always forget how much I love biking, but it is one of my favorite sports.
Anneka on the bike track
Anyway, that night we went down to the beach. It was not much of one though. The sand was kinda gross and the water was up too our ankles for about 50 feet. We saw some trampolines on the other side of the water and went on them. We paid for half an hour and got 1 hour. It was so fun!!! Me and Anneka kept playing popcorn. It was amazing. We ate dinner after trampolining. We were starving! I got a Pizza, witch was great. We went to the trampoline the next night to. And it was just as fun.
That was Split. Next Stop Hvar

Next we went to the island of Hvar. We had to take a 5 hour ferry there!!! It actually wasn't that bad. We arrived at the island and my mom fell in love. It was really beautiful. All the streets were cobble stone and really old. The buildings were all old fashioned, and the whole main street was along the water, witch was crystal clear.

Our place was really nice, and we ate lunch there. After, we went to walk around the city. We walked through a small park along the water. ( Pretty much everything is along the water, you'll be hearing that a lot)
This was sort of what the ferry we took looked like

The water is so beautiful

I can't believe I'm saying this again but, Selfie

Walking in the park

The next morning we rented a boat for the day. It was small, but we all loved it. It was the perfect size to spend the day on. We went to a bunch of little coves and beaches. The were all crazy beautiful!!! We met a family with a 4 year old girl and 2 year old girl. The 2 year old was Olivia too. The parents were so nice and we ended up talking to them for like, an hour. That cove was actually my favorite.

The next day we went up the hill to an old fortress. (Again, I know) It was different from the other ones though. It wasn't a city, just a place were citizens used to go, to be protected. There was a big wall around, at least 20 feet high! Guy's used to stand at the top with guns, and buckets of hot oil and would kill anyone who tried to break in. Crazy, I know!!!

Going down to the old jail.

There were cannons lining the walls all the way around the fortress
The rest of our time in Hvar was spent touring the city.

We all love Hvar so much and are sad to leave.
Next Stop KRKA!!!

We took the ferry bacjk to the main land and headed to the National park, Krka. (Pronounced Kur-Ka)There is a small town that we were staying in, called Skraden. We were only here one night, which was sad, because our place was awesome. Everything was old wood, and the roof was slanted. I felt like I was in a tiny little doll house. Anyway, Krka is all waterfalls that you can swim in. We took a 10 minute boat there, and it was spectacular.
Dad was the first one in
The water was freezing! I only went up to my waste, it was that cold. After we dried off, we walked around the park. There is a trail that goes around, so you can see everything. It was about an hour walk, and everywhere you looked, it was a new beautiful view.

We were only here for the day, and it was the perfect amount of time. We got in the car and kept driving.
Next Stop ZADAR

We continued our drive, and headed to the city of Zadar. It is famous for it's sea organ. There is holes in the ground at the waterfront, and every time the waves hit, it makes music.  Anneka had picked our apartment, and she picked well. It was really spacious and nice. We had lunch, then went down to the water to here the organs. It was really beautiful, and there was a place to cliff jump. We went home to get our bathing suits on. Then we went back down to the water and went swimming. The water wasn't nearly as cold as Krka, but it was still chilly.

We walked through the old city, (I don't know how many more I can take) and then went into a small museum.

Zadar was cool, but I think 3 days here was to much. One morning we didn't go out until 3:00!!! I think if you are going to stop here make it a one night stop. Even a day, if you don't have a lot of time.
Next Stop ZAGREB

We headed to our last stop in Croatia , Zagreb. On our way there, we stopped at another waterfall park. This one is much more famous then Krka, and it is called, Plitvice. There are like, 6 paths in the park, but we did the one that went all the way around. It was a 4 hour walk!!! In the beginning, we like it. But near the end, we were all dying to sit down. The views we saw though, they were crazy amazing!!! The water here was so crystal clear in some spots, and in others, it was the bluest water I have ever seen!
This was the first waterfall we saw

This boardwalk went rite over one of the falls.

I really liked these ones, there was moss all over them

These ones were huge!!!

The water was so aqua green here!

This was a really beautiful cove

We took a boat to see more

These were the biggest falls

Me and Anneka found a rock to climb

Mom and dad went up to a cave, while me and Anneka stayed down
So many pictures! And that is only half of them! I will show you guys the rest, but with a break first. Sadly, you could not swim anywhere here, because it was all a National park. It was really annoying, because it was all so perfect for swimming! We felt the water, and even the temperature was awesome! I think I liked Krka better. I don't really know why, I mean, Plitvice is much more grand and big, but I just really liked Krka. Now for the rest of the pictures.

This was a small cave built into the rocks

I actually really liked the small ones like this

We left the park and continued our drive to Zagreb. Our place was really nice. It had a huge couch! Anyway, we went out for lunch and found a awesome park. There was a big festival going on, and we stayed here for a bit. Anneka got her face painted and we bought these sugar doughnut balls. They were so delicious!!!

There were a lot of these statues, the ones with  nights killing dragons and serpents

A cool building we saw

The next day, my mom and Anneka went shopping. I'm not the biggest fan so me and Dad went to a museum. It was the Nicola Tesla museum. He is the guy who basically invented electricity. It was actually really cool. We saw all these old engines that used to power big boats. We watched a video on things Tesla built. ( he built a lot of things) We were there for about 2 hours then we went back home.
Old engines

A old army vehicle

An old fire truck

These are things Tesla invented. They look like nothing but they are what started electricity

A statue of him

Mom and Anneka came back shortly after, and we all went for a walk around town. It was such a beautiful city! There were old churches everywhere you looked. We saw the ost grand church ever! It had two big clock towers, and such a detaild entrance. The inside was spectacular! Sadly though, it was under renovation. It was still pretty beautiful.
This church had the coolest roof!

That was all for Zagreb, and Croatia. Overall I liked it. Not as much as Greece but close. I am exited to continue our journey across Europe.
NEXT STOP, SPAIN
